Our Story
In 2015, two newcomers to Dallas found themselves searching for a way to make the city feel like home. Kara and Lily had just moved to Texas and quickly realized how much there was to explore—but also how overwhelming it could be to figure out where to start. From hidden gems to local favorites, they wanted to create a guide for others like them: curious, adventurous locals looking to discover everything their city had to offer.
What began as a humble Instagram account sharing recommendations quickly grew into something much bigger—beyond the ‘gram, beyond Dallas and beyond our wildest dreams.

We built on the magic of the 101 brand, expanding into new markets and platforms to create more opportunities for connection. From launching Austinites101 and FortWorthians101 to offering marketing services for local businesses and introducing products like the Passport Collection, our mission has remained the same: to create a sense of belonging and propel the prosperity of a city, its businesses and its people.
Ten years later, we’re proud to have grown with Texas, inspired by the people and places that have shaped our journey. Reflecting on the past decade, the potential of 101Media has never been clearer. Thanks to a loyal and engaged community, and a meaningful impact both online and offline, our brand is recognized today as a go-to local media resource (The Dallas Morning News).
As we look to the future, we’re fueled by our mission to create a sense of belonging and propel the prosperity of cities, businesses and people. We’re excited to empower local businesses while connecting Texans to the brands, people, places, and experiences that make their cities feel like home.
Because at 101Media, we’ve learned to think like Texans: big, bold, and always aiming for better.
